In the past, the sentences imposed by judges for violations of the Weapons and Ammunition Control Act have been generally too lenient, and applications for monitoring of communications are not often approved.  During the meeting on December 15, 2010, the Prosecutor-General suggested that the Ministry of Justice officially request for the Judicial Yuan’s detailed consideration of the matter as well as the relevant case precedents and information. It is hoped that the Judicial Yuan can instruct for heavier sentencing and approval of communication monitoring where necessary in investigations, so as to jointly uphold the stability of legal order and to comply with provisions of the law. The Judicial Yuan has provided positive response to this request, and has conveyed the written request of the Ministry of Justice to judges of the courts for their reference.
